WhyTab Privacy Policy

WhyTab is a Chrome extension that helps you save open tabs into organized collections. We designed WhyTab to work locally on your device with minimal data handling.
1. What data WhyTab processes
WhyTab processes the following data so it can provide its tab-saving features:
- Tab metadata for tabs you choose to save, such as:
- URL
- Page title
- Favicon reference
- Collection names, notes, tags, and timestamps
- Extension settings you configure
- Optional local activity/history data used for product features
2. How data is collected
WhyTab accesses tab information only through Chrome extension APIs required for its core functionality (for example, saving tabs, organizing collections, and reopening tabs).
3. Where data is stored
WhyTab stores your extension data locally on your browser/device using chrome.storage.local.
WhyTab does not require an account to use core functionality.
4. Data sharing and sale
We do not sell your data.
We do not transfer your data to third parties for advertising or unrelated purposes.
5. Data use limitation
Any data processed by WhyTab is used only to operate extension features that are directly related to its single purpose: saving and organizing tabs.
6. Backups and exports
WhyTab includes export/backup features that may create JSON files on your device using Chrome's downloads API. These files are created locally for your use.
7. Remote code
WhyTab does not execute remote JavaScript or remote WebAssembly code.
8. Retention and deletion
Your saved tab data remains in local extension storage until you:
- delete items/collections in WhyTab,
- clear all data from WhyTab settings, or
- uninstall the extension (subject to browser behavior).
9. Security
We aim to minimize permissions and limit processing to what is required for extension functionality. No system is perfect, but we work to keep data handling minimal and local-first.
10. Children's privacy
WhyTab is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material updates will be reflected by revising the “Last updated” date.
